Todd Brand

Senior Associate Attorney

Todd Brand has practiced exclusively in design and construction law, representing clients in Chicago and nationally, since 2015. He uses his knowledge of design and construction law and contracts to assert and protect the rights of all stakeholders in the industry.

Todd has represented project owners, real estate developers, design professionals, general contractors and subcontractors, and other project stakeholders, on a wide variety of dispute resolution matters. He prevents – and when necessary, uses mediation, arbitration and litigation to resolve – claims involving architectural and engineering errors, construction defects, matters involving project schedule delay, mechanics lien recording, foreclosure and defense, termination of contract issues, fraud, design and construction insurance coverage matters, claims involving payment and performance bonds.

While Todd has successfully represented clients in litigation, mediation and arbitration, and is comfortable zealously advocating for clients in these forums, he also draws upon his extensive experience in risk management to advise his clients on claim prevention and dispute avoidance measures so his clients can focus on what is most important – delivering excellent new design and construction projects, preventing disputes, and achieving “win-win” outcomes.

  • Laurie & Brennan LLP, Associate Attorney (2018 – 2021)

Todd practiced design and construction law at Laurie & Brennan LLP, a nationally recognized law firm dedicated exclusively to representing the construction industry in complex construction disputes throughout the United States, immediately before joining Baker Law Group LLC. At Laurie & Brennan LLP, Todd worked on complex design and construction projects, including renovation of several NFL stadiums, such as Lincoln Financial Field, Hard Rock Stadium and Chicago’s own Soldier Field. At Laurie & Brennan LLP, Todd deepened his construction litigation experience in a wide variety of matters, including claims involving property damage, construction project fraud, material failures, underground store tanks, interstate railways, and other design and construction project claims. An experienced litigator, Todd is comfortable in the courtroom, advocating for clients in arbitration, and seeking early cost-efficient dispute resolution in mediation.

Like Jeremy Baker, the highly-regarded principals of Laurie & Brennan LLP launched their law firm directly from Schiff Hardin LLP, where they were partners in its Construction Law Group. Numerous Laurie & Brennan LLP partners are, like Jeremy Baker, members of the esteemed Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys (SOICA). Jeremy feels particularly fortunate to count a Laurie & Brennan LLP alumni, Todd Brand, as a Baker Law Group LLC attorney.
